The factional Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Nafi’u Bala, has firmly denied claims that he expressed regret over his involvement in the party’s ongoing internal crisis, insisting that the reports circulating in the media are inaccurate and misleading.
Bala also dismissed as false a viral report alleging that his life was under threat, describing the claims as baseless and deliberately designed to create unnecessary panic and tarnish his public image. The statement, which gained traction across several platforms, quoted him as expressing fear for his safety and regret over his role in the party’s leadership dispute.
The former ADC governorship candidate in Gombe State was alleged to have said he did not anticipate the extent of the fallout resulting from the political disagreements within the party, noting that the situation had escalated beyond his expectations. According to the viral quote, Bala purportedly stated: “I regret my role in the ADC crises. I did not know it would reach this level. My life is in danger.”
However, reacting in a statement released on Sunday, Bala categorically refuted the claims, describing the publication as “false, malicious, and deliberately crafted to damage my integrity.” He stressed that at no point did he grant any interview or make such comments, either directly or through any representative.
Bala further clarified that he has not authorised any individual, group, or media outlet to speak on his behalf regarding the internal affairs of the party or the ongoing leadership dispute. He urged members of the public and party supporters to disregard the report in its entirety, emphasizing that it does not reflect his position.
Providing context to the situation, Bala maintained that his actions throughout the crisis have been guided strictly by due process and the party’s constitutional framework. He pointed out that developments within the ADC followed the resignation of the former National Chairman, Ralph Nwosu, on July 2, 2025, which triggered a series of leadership adjustments and internal disagreements.
According to him, any suggestion that he is attempting to distance himself from the crisis or express regret over his involvement is completely unfounded. He reiterated his commitment to the party and his role within it, noting that his decisions have always been made in line with established procedures and in the interest of maintaining order within the ADC.
“I have not instructed anyone, including the individual mentioned in the publication, to make statements on my behalf. Such claims should be disregarded,” Bala stated.
He concluded by calling on party members, stakeholders, and the general public to rely only on verified information from official sources, warning against the spread of misinformation capable of deepening divisions within the party.
